The Longines Heritage Legend Diver is not a marketing scheme: all the models from this collection come in as a re-issue of timepieces that marked the history of Longines . If you compare it with other watches from this collection you discover that it does not feature that same familiar feeling and that's not by chance as it is the almost perfect re-edition of the Legend Diver from the sixties, which you can see from these pictures, included the 42mm wide case, quite an uncommon case size in the 60s , though very common today.

At 42mm, the steel case bears a modern size suitable for most wrists; however, the lugs on both the original and the reissue are extraordinarily long, and it’s often the lug-to-lug distance that dictates how large a watch wears on the wrist as the lugs are the features to physically extend beyond the arm. Lug-to-lug, the case measures 52mm and really pushes the limits on my 6.75″ wrist. It’s a 13mm thick case, about 4.5mm of which owes to the proudly domed sapphire and anti-reflective sapphire crystal that mimics the shape of the 1960s plexiglass. This is one of those features that I particularly love and appreciate the fact that it’s executed using modern materials as such a proud plexiglass would be prone to scratches. As you would expect in a Longines, the steel case has a magnificent polish and heft to it, lending to a solid and sure feel on the wrist. Given the synthetic strap, the weight will surprise you a little.
Longines is part of the Swatch Group and one of the advantages of being part of this group, is that you are able to use a movement from the ETA company. While other companies seem to be more concerned about developing in-house movements for marketing reasons than for the sake of creating cool watches, Longines picked the ETA2824-2 for their Legend Diver Date. I really don’t believe that an in-house developed movement is that important for customers. I believe a reasonable price for a watch is more important than the origin of a movement. I’ve seen other companies double the price for the exact same watch, but now featuring an in-house movement. That doesn’t make sense to me. Also, the ETA 2824-2 (like many other ETA movements) have a perfect track record of being a solid and accurate movement.
And the previous paragraph brings us to the price of the watch. Just like the
,the price is a very competitive aspect of this watch. This Longines Legend Diver Date has a retail price of 1540 EUR (in The Netherlands, including 21% VAT).
